Ex-Lawmaker Eta Mbora Leaves PDP for ADC Amid Party Crisis

David Egbede, March 20, 2026March 20, 2026

Former House of Representatives member, Eta Mbora, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), joining a growing list of ex-federal lawmakers aligning with the party.

Mbora, who represented Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency during the 9th Assembly, made the announcement on Thursday in Calabar.

Citing the ongoing internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he explained that the persistent party instability had weakened its structure.

He acknowledged that leaving the PDP was a difficult decision but stressed that recent developments made the move necessary.

“I remain grateful to the PDP for the opportunities it afforded me to serve at the local government, state, and national levels,” he stated.

Mbora also thanked his supporters and associates for their steadfast loyalty over the years and urged them to join him in the ADC, particularly by participating in the party’s ongoing registration and revalidation exercise in their respective wards.

His defection is part of a broader wave of political realignments in Cross River State ahead of the next election cycle.

The trend follows recent moves by former governor Liyel Imoke and former senator Gershom Bassey, who have also switched to the ADC.

Meanwhile, plans are underway by the party to host a reception rally in honour of Mbora and other new entrants.
