Despite Semi-Final Defeat to Morocco, BUA Chairman Re-iterates $500,000 Reward to Super Eagles

Billionaire industrialist and Chairman of BUA Group, Abdulsamad Rabiu, has praised the Super Eagles for their performance in the semi-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations against host nation Morocco, describing the team as courageous and committed despite their defeat.

In a message shared on his verified X account late Wednesday night, shortly after Nigeria lost 4–2 on penalties, Rabiu said the Super Eagles gave their all in the contest.

He added that, although the team fell short of reaching the final, he would still honour his earlier pledge of a $500,000 reward as a gesture of appreciation for their impressive campaign and fighting spirit throughout the tournament.

REAL BROADCASTING NETWORK recalls that shortly after defeating Algeria 2:0 in the 2025 AFCON quarter-final on Saturday, Abdulsamad Rabiu promised to reward the Super Eagles with $500,000 on winning the Wednesday’s semifinals with additional $50,000 for every goal scored, and $1million reward if the Super Eagles go ahead to win the AFCON trophy at the finals. However, it is not to be.

Reacting to the development shortly after the tense semifinal clash, Rabiu went philosophical, saying sometimes, one’s our best efforts don’t bring the outcome hoped for, but the spirit, passion, and unity displayed are what truly matter.

He wrote: “To our brave Super Eagles,

“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud.

“Sometimes, even our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we hope for, but the spirit, passion, and unity you displayed are what truly matter. You left everything on the field, and that is worthy of celebration.

“As a token of appreciation for your remarkable journey and effort, I am still going ahead to fulfill the pledge of $500,000 USD. This is in recognition of your hard work, dedication, and the joy you have brought to our nation.

“Keep your heads high, Super Eagles – the experience, lessons, and spirit will fuel even greater success next time. Nigeria will always be proud of you, and we believe in your future victories!”
