Chief of Army Staff Visits Jos to Strengthen Security

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday, led top security officials in a hands-on assessment of the security situation in Jos, Plateau State.

Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, stated that the visit is part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and ensure lasting stability across the state.

According to the statement, the COAS was received upon arrival by the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, underscoring strong civil-military cooperation and a shared commitment to addressing emerging security challenges.

The statement added that Lieutenant General Shaibu received a detailed operational briefing from the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola. The briefing highlighted ongoing operations and proactive measures being coordinated with other security agencies to protect lives and property and stabilise affected communities.

“As part of his engagements, Lieutenant General Shaibu also interacted with community leaders and residents, reassuring them of the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Army to safeguarding all law-abiding citizens.

He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and supportive of security agencies by complying with the curfew and cooperating fully with ongoing operations and investigations, while going about their lawful activities.”

Hon. Dachung Bagos, chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, praised the COAS for the timely visit, stating that “the presence of the nation’s top military leadership would boost public confidence and reinforce trust in ongoing security efforts.”
