The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially declared Morocco as winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The CAF Appeal Board ruled in Morocco’s favour, stating that Senegal forfeited the final after their players walked off the pitch during the match. As a result, Morocco were awarded a 3–0 walkover victory.
The decision follows Morocco’s appeal after the chaotic scenes that unfolded during the final.
RBN recalls that Senegal’s players briefly left the field in protest after a controversial late penalty was awarded to Morocco.
Although the team, led by captain Sadio Mané, returned to continue the match and eventually secured a 1–0 win on the pitch, CAF ruled that the initial walk-off breached competition regulations.
According to CAF, the action violated Article 84, which addresses refusal to play or abandonment of a match.
Under AFCON rules, any team that leaves the field without authorization or refuses to continue playing risks disqualification and forfeiture.
