Justice Binta Fatima Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Hamatu Modu, a key food supplier to Boko Haram in Borno State, to 40 years in prison over terrorism-related offences.

Modu, who admitted in court to providing food and intelligence to the террорист group, was prosecuted by the Federal Government through the Attorney General of the Federation. He pleaded guilty to a four-count charge.

Delivering judgment, Justice Nyako handed him 10 years on each count. However, following a plea from the defence, the sentences will run concurrently, meaning he will serve 10 years.

The prosecution was led by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN.

In a related case, another supplier, Isah Ali, was also sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. His term will count from three years ago when he was first detained.

Both convicts were ordered to undergo rehabilitation and deradicalisation after serving their jail terms, while the Federal Ministry of Interior will determine where they will be held.
