United Nigeria Airlines has announced the temporary withdrawal of one of its aircraft from operations following a bird strike incident that occurred during landing in Abuja.
In a statement issued yesterday by the Public Relations Office of the airline, the airline said the affected CRJ-900 aircraft was involved in the incident while operating Flight UN0579 from Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
According to the airline, the aircraft encountered the bird strike during its scheduled landing at about 6:15 p.m., prompting immediate safety measures.
The airline said the aircraft has been withdrawn from service to undergo comprehensive technical inspections and necessary maintenance in line with aviation safety standards.
“As a result, some flights across our network may be affected and may not operate as scheduled,” the airline said, apologising to passengers for the inconvenience caused by the disruption.
United Nigeria Airlines noted that the incident marks the fifth bird strike involving its fleet since January 2026, adding that all occurrences have been handled in compliance with established aviation safety regulations and operational procedures.
The airline reiterated that passenger safety remains its top priority and assured customers of its commitment to maintaining high safety and operational standards.
