The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has recorded another high-profile defection as former lawmaker Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya joins the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Gaya, who represented Kano South Senatorial District in the last assembly, confirmed his resignation in a letter dated April 5, 2026, addressed to his ward chairman in Gaya Local Government Area. He noted that his exit takes immediate effect.
According to him, the decision came after “careful reflection and wide consultation,” adding that the move aligns with both his personal beliefs and the interests of his constituents.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to the party for the platform it provided me and for the cooperation and camaraderie extended over the years,” he stated.
The resignation was acknowledged by the Gaya Arewa Ward Chairman, Adam A. Adam.
Speaking afterward, Gaya confirmed his move to the ADC and disclosed that he maintains a cordial relationship with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, noting they are working together to strengthen the party in Kano.
His defection comes shortly after Gawuna, the APC’s 2023 governorship candidate in the state, also left the party.
