David Egbede, April 10, 2026April 10, 2026

Mohamed El-Shenawy has been handed a four-match suspension after striking a referee during Al Ahly SC’s 1-1 draw with Ceramica Cleopatra FC in the Egyptian Pro League.

The incident occurred after the match when the goalkeeper, who was on the bench, reacted angrily to a late handball decision that did not result in a penalty for his side.

“A four-match ban and fine of 50,000 Egyptian pounds (£700) for assaulting the referee by pushing or pulling [use of the hand without violence],” a league statement confirmed.

The 37-year-old, who represented Egypt at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, is expected to miss several key fixtures and will now be unavailable until the final week of the league’s championship play-offs.

Defending champions Al Ahly currently sit third in the standings, trailing leaders Zamalek SC by five points.
