FIFA has revealed a list of 52 referees set to officiate at the upcoming World Cup, including six women — continuing the push for greater inclusion in global football.
The tournament, scheduled for June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will also feature 88 assistant referees and 30 video match officials drawn from 50 member associations worldwide.
According to Pierluigi Collina, FIFA’s chief refereeing officer: “The selected match officials are the very best in the world. They have been closely monitored over the past three years and have officiated in top-level competitions.”
This edition of the World Cup will be the largest ever, expanding to 48 teams and 104 matches — a significant increase from the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
The inclusion of six female referees also builds on the progress made in the last World Cup, highlighting FIFA’s commitment to developing women in officiating.
