David Egbede, April 5, 2026April 5, 2026

At least seven people have been killed and several others kidnapped after terrorists attacked churches in Ariko community, Kachia LGA of Kaduna State during Easter celebrations.

The assailants reportedly stormed the area in the early hours of Sunday, targeting worshippers at First ECWA Church and St. Augustine Catholic Church, throwing the community into panic.

Councillor of Awon Ward, Mark Bawa, confirmed the incident, noting that casualty figures remain unclear.

“I am currently on my way to the community to ascertain the exact number of casualties. Some sources said seven persons were killed, while others claimed eight. I will provide an update once details are confirmed,” he said.

Bawa added that poor telecommunications in the area may have worsened the situation, delaying any immediate response.

“The attackers came in large numbers. They surrounded the area and began shooting sporadically at worshippers. Several people were killed, while many others were taken away into the bush,” he added.

Residents said the attackers operated for a prolonged period without resistance, raising fresh concerns about the safety of rural communities.

As of the time of filing this report, police authorities had yet to release an official statement.
