The Police Command in Nasarawa State has confirmed that 11 people lost their lives, while more than 50 houses were destroyed following a communal crisis in Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities in Nasarawa LGA.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, the violence erupted on Friday after suspected hoodlums launched a reprisal attack over the alleged killing of two of their kinsmen.

“In the course of the attack, 11 people were killed, while about 52 houses were burnt in the two communities,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, led a delegation to assess the damage and expressed sympathy to affected families, assuring that justice would be pursued.

Authorities have since ordered an intensive manhunt for those responsible, with tactical teams deployed to restore calm and prevent further unrest.

Security efforts have been reinforced through collaboration between the Police, Military, and NSCDC, while residents have been urged to remain calm and support investigations with credible information.

Police say normalcy has been restored, with measures in place to prevent a recurrence of the violence.
