2027: Labaran Maku Defects to SDP After Leaving PDP

David Egbede, April 1, 2026

Former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, has officially joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Maku, popularly known as “Mutumin Kirki,” made the switch on Tuesday—just a day after announcing his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The former minister, who also served as commissioner and deputy governor of Nasarawa State between 1999 and 2007, is reportedly under pressure from supporters to contest the Nasarawa North senatorial seat.
