The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday met behind closed doors with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, fueling fresh speculation about his possible move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The meeting, held at the Government House in Bauchi, had in attendance APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf.
However, both Mohammed and Yilwatda declined to brief journalists, leaving details of the discussions undisclosed.
The development follows Mohammed’s recent signal that the ADC is his preferred option as he weighs leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he currently chairs the Governors’ Forum.
A day earlier, the governor hosted an ADC delegation led by Babachir Lawal, citing the lingering crisis within the PDP as a major reason for his planned exit.
“We have found ourselves in a very serious situation. I have done everything possible to ensure reconciliation, but it has not worked,” Mohammed said.
“We set up committees at both the national and state levels to explore all options, including even the APC, but sadly, we discovered that we are not wanted there.”
He added that while consultations are ongoing, the ADC currently appears to be the most “welcoming and acceptable platform,” with a final decision expected soon.
