US President Donald Trump has maintained that Iran is engaged in negotiations with the United States, despite repeated denials from Tehran this week.
Speaking at the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) annual fundraising dinner in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, Trump claimed that Iranian leaders are reluctant to admit their interest in a deal because they fear backlash from their own people.
He added that the country’s leadership is also concerned about potential threats from the United States.
According to Trump, the war in the Middle East was a military operation, claiming that the US is decimating Iran.
The Republican stressed that Iran would have used a nuclear weapon against the US without hesitation, stating that if it was not for the US the entire world would be under mortal threat and the prospects for peace in the Middle East would be absolutely shattered forever
Trump further explained that the changes to oil prices are short term, insisting that the US had to cut out what he described as cancer.
“The cancer was Iran with a nuclear weapon. We’ve cut it out now. We’re going to finish it. They are afraid to admit that they want a deal because they feel they will be killed by their own people and the United States,” Trump said.
