The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has approved the expulsion of 171 students over the use of fake admission credentials.
The decision was reached during the institution’s 433rd Senate meeting held on March 4, 2026, as disclosed in a bulletin issued by the Public Affairs Directorate on behalf of the Registrar.
According to the university, the move followed the review of a report by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities, which uncovered inconsistencies in the admission records of the affected students.
The findings showed that the students had falsified the qualifications used to secure admission.
The statement noted that the action aligns with the university’s General Examinations and Academic Regulations (GEAR), specifically Section 20.7, Category A (vii), which prescribes expulsion for such offences.
In a related development, the Senate also approved the expulsion of a Civil Engineering student, Yusuf Muhammad Sani, for engaging in physical violence during an examination.
He was reported to have attacked invigilators, disrupting the exercise.
The university said the incident violated Section 20.7, Category A (vi) of its regulations and reiterated its commitment to upholding academic integrity and discipline, warning that acts of misconduct will continue to attract strict sanctions.
