Court Arraigns 40-Year-Old Woman Over Alleged N1.7m Fraud

A 40-year-old woman, Akinibi Tosin, on Monday appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of N1.7 million.

Tosin, a sales representative, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and betrayal of trust.

She pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Odusina Olawole, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometimes between Jan. 26, 2026 and March 9, 2026 at Lexican Investment Limited, Omole Estate, Ile-Ife.

Olawole said that the defendant stole the sum of N1,750,465 belonging to Lexican Investment Limited.

He added that the defendant breach the trust reposed on her by the company.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 383, 390(9) and 434 of Osun Criminal Code, 2002.

The defendant’s counsel, Mr Conscience Mume, applied for the bail of his client in most liberal terms, with a promise that she would not jump bail.

Chief Magistrate Abosede Sarumi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Sarumi stated that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, present three years tax clearance, and own a landed property.

The case was adjourned until April 1, for hearing.
