NRC Adds More Abuja–Kaduna Train Trips From March 6

Rejoice Ewodage, March 3, 2026March 3, 2026

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced an expansion of trips on the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS), effective Friday, March 6, 2026, to meet growing passenger demand along the busy corridor.

The announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement by Callistus Unyimadu, Chief Public Relations Officer of the NRC, who said the move is aimed at providing more travel options, improving operational flexibility, and enhancing service delivery for commuters.

The corridor had previously faced disruptions following the March 28, 2022 bomb blast and the August 26, 2025 derailment, which temporarily reduced the number of available trains from three to one and led to the introduction of Temporary Speed Restrictions (TSR) for safety reasons.

With stability now restored, the NRC has relaxed some of these restrictions and increased the number of trips to accommodate passengers.

Under the new schedule, services from Idu to Rigasa and back will operate twice on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with trains departing Idu at 8:45 a.m. and returning from Rigasa at 2:30 p.m.

On Fridays and Sundays, three trips will run, departing Idu at 7:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., while trains leave Rigasa at 11:30 a.m. Saturdays and Mondays will also feature three trips, departing Rigasa at 7:15 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and from Idu at 11:00 a.m. All trains will make scheduled stops at Kubwa.

Unyimadu advised passengers to take note of the revised timetable and plan their journeys accordingly, noting that the NRC remains committed to safety, reliability, and an improved passenger experience across its network.
