President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the governing council of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, appointing the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, as chairman.
The newly constituted 16-member council includes key institutional stakeholders such as the chairman of the Police Service Commission, the Inspector-General of Police, and representatives from the Federal Ministries of Education, Finance, and Justice.
In a statement issued on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President also named six members to represent the country’s geopolitical zones.
They are Babagana Zannah Adam (North East), Emmanuel Torkuma Manger (North Central), Maigari Abati Dikko (North West), Dubem Obaze (South East), Ajibogere Toyin (South West), and Udom Udo Ekpoudom (South South).
The statement added that the Commandant of the Academy, the Provost, and the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of training will serve as ex officio members of the council, while the Registrar of the academy will act as secretary.
The reconstitution of the council is part of ongoing efforts by the federal government to strengthen governance and oversight at the academy, which plays a key role in training officers for the Nigeria Police Force.
