Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Political Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has alleged that the current administration has effectively surrendered Nigeria’s sovereignty to the United States.
Speaking on Friday during an appearance on Arise Television, Baba-Ahmed was responding to recent recommendations by US officials concerning claims of Christian genocide in Nigeria.
He accused the government of diminishing Nigeria’s image, deepening divisions among citizens, and reducing the country to what he described as a virtual colony.
Baba-Ahmed also referenced a delegation that had previously visited Nigeria to probe allegations of genocide against Christians, noting that the group has since intensified its campaign by taking its concerns directly to the US President.
According to him, the effort—backed by elements of the American far-right and influential Nigerian lobbyists in the United States—appears aimed at tarnishing Nigeria’s reputation, creating internal discord, and ultimately undermining the nation’s sovereignty.
RBN earlier reported that US Congressman Riley M. Moore urged the imposition of sanctions on Nigeria and called for the repeal of blasphemy and Sharia laws as part of wider measures to address violence targeting Christian communities in the country.
Airing his opinion on the development, the former Presidential adviser said, “I’m shocked regarding the perceived handing over of Nigeria’s sovereignty to the United States.
“I view the documents detailing actions by US Congressman, Riley Moore, as egregious violations of Nigeria’s sovereignty, integrity, unity, internal affairs, security, and way of life.
“Nigeria should condemn this situation unequivocally. The current administration is seen as having surrendered Nigeria to the Americans.”
