Four people have been confirmed dead after a helicopter belonging to the Iranian Army’s Air Force crashed into a fruit market in central Iran on Tuesday.

According to the official news agency Islamic Republic News Agency, the crash occurred in Khomeynishahr, located in Isfahan Province. The victims include the pilot, co-pilot, and two fruit vendors who were at the market when the aircraft went down.

Authorities attributed the incident to a technical malfunction. Emergency responders were deployed to the scene shortly after the crash, while investigations commenced to determine the precise cause of the failure.

The tragedy adds to a string of aviation incidents in Iran in recent years. Just days earlier, a fighter jet reportedly crashed during a late-night training exercise in Hamedan Province, resulting in the death of one of the two pilots on board.

Iran’s aviation sector has faced persistent challenges, including difficulties in acquiring spare parts for its ageing fleet amid longstanding international sanctions.
