Gov Sule Distributes 1,000 Mattresses, 500 Double-bunk Beds To College Of Education

David Egbede, January 9, 2026

Governor Abdullahi Sule has distributed 1,000 mattresses and 500 double-bunk beds to students of the College of Education, Akwanga, Nasarawa, as part of efforts to enhance their learning and living conditions.

Peter Ahemba, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Public Affairs, stated this at a bimonthly press briefing in Lafia, noting that the distribution reflects the Sule administration’s ongoing commitment to the education sector since taking office in 2019.

He highlighted that the government has constructed multiple classroom blocks, renovated numerous schools, and installed perimeter fencing to protect educational institutions from encroachment.

Ahemba added that the administration has recruited both teaching and non-teaching staff and provided essential teaching materials across primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions in the state to improve educational standards.

He further revealed that Governor Sule has approved N165 million for the renovation of girls’ hostels at Government Science School, Lafia, and the construction of 10 new toilet facilities within the school.

The governor’s aide also urged lecturers in state-owned tertiary institutions to suspend ongoing strikes, encouraging a return to negotiations to ensure a swift resolution and uninterrupted academic activities.

Ahemba noted that strikes at the College of Education, Akwanga; Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia; and the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia could negatively impact students’ education, appealing to the unions to engage constructively with the government.

Addressing security concerns, he warned of the gradual infiltration of criminal elements into the state, emphasizing that the government would not allow threats to disrupt the peace of residents.

“We are committed to sustaining the relative peace achieved since 2019. We strongly condemn the recent midnight attack on residents of Akunza in Ashigi Community, Lafia, by unidentified gunmen. Security agencies have been directed to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators without delay,” Ahemba said.

He assured the public that the government is collaborating with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to implement measures to prevent similar incidents and safeguard lives and property.

Finally, Ahemba urged residents to report suspicious activities and cooperate fully with security agencies to combat crime and maintain safety in the state.
