Rejoice Ewodage, February 22, 2026February 22, 2026

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the winners of Saturday’s elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Kano and Rivers states, urging them to serve with humility, patriotism, and dedication as they assume office.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted polls in all six FCT Area Councils, as well as by-elections in the Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers, and the Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.

In his message, released by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga on Sunday, the President commended the peaceful conduct of the elections and praised the contributions of key actors, including the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, whose achievements in the territory, he noted, helped strengthen the party’s performance at the polls.

He also congratulated the APC’s national leadership and party members in Kano and Rivers on their victories.

President Tinubu praised INEC, security agencies, and voters for ensuring a peaceful and successful electoral process. He lauded the courage and discipline of all contestants, stressing that active participation and competition enrich Nigeria’s democracy.

“The successful conduct of these elections further consolidates democratic culture and institutions in Nigeria,” the statement said.

The President also called on INEC to continue improving its electoral processes to ensure even more transparent and exemplary polls in future elections.
