The Kano State Censorship Board on Tuesday ordered the closure of all entertainment venues in the state.
According to a statement signed by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, on Wednesday, the directive which takes effect on Wednesday, includes all event centers, gala houses and DJ operations, for the duration of Ramadan.
“Effective from Wednesday, 18 February 2026, all such venues (entertainment centres) will remain closed until the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
“The directive will take effect from 10:00 p.m. on that day Wednesday.” the statement said. The board further stated that the action was taken in line with the Ramadan season to create a peaceful and conducive environment for residents.
It also appealed to the various entertainment operators to adhere to the directive and compel fully. “The closure will remain in force throughout the fasting period, while the date for reopening, particularly during the Eid celebrations, will be announced at the appropriate time,” the statement added.
The board offered prayers for a calm and healthy Ramadan, asking God to grant the faithful the grace to witness the sacred month in mercy and prosperity.
