FG Launches PTDF Scholarship for 2025/2026, Opens Portal for Engineering Students

Soliu Oyesiji, April 20, 2026

The federal government has commenced applications for the 2025/2026 in-country scholarship programme targeting engineering and allied disciplines in Nigerian universities.

The scheme, administered by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, officially opened its application portal on Monday, April 20, 2026, with submissions expected to close on May 29, 2026.

Designed for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, the programme focuses on oil and gas–related fields as part of efforts to strengthen local expertise and build technical capacity within Nigeria’s energy sector.

According to the PTDF, interested candidates are required to submit their applications within the six-week window through its official scholarship portal. https://scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng/

The fund outlined a detailed application process, beginning with account creation on the portal, followed by login to access the application dashboard.

Applicants are also required to verify their National Identification Number (NIN) before proceeding, with the agency cautioning against repeated failed attempts to avoid extra charges.

Candidates must accept the programme’s terms and conditions before completing the application form, where they are expected to provide accurate details and upload relevant documents in specified formats.

As part of the process, applicants are to select their preferred courses and institutions, while postgraduate candidates must submit either a statement of purpose or a research proposal, depending on their level of study.

Mandatory documents include academic certificates, birth certificate, and local government identification, with additional credentials such as professional memberships and publications considered optional.

The PTDF emphasised that applicants should carefully review their entries before final submission, noting that submitted applications cannot be edited.

The scholarship covers approved courses in Nigerian universities linked to the oil and gas sector and related industries.

The fund said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to develop human capital, reduce reliance on foreign expertise, and strengthen institutional capacity in the country’s energy landscape.

It added that the in-country scholarship is distinct from its overseas programme and typically provides support for tuition, stipends, and study materials, with beneficiaries selected based on merit and alignment with national development priorities.
