Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday urged the people of Iran to push for political change in their country.
He emphasized that it is ultimately up to the Iranian population to bring an end to the current leadership in Tehran.
Speaking during a meeting with representatives of Israel’s Ministry of Health, Netanyahu said the government’s broader goal is to support Iranians in liberating themselves from what he described as oppressive rule.
“Our goal is to bring the Iranian people to throw off the yoke of tyranny, but ultimately it depends on them,” Netanyahu said, according to a statement from his office.
Referring to the Iranian leadership, he added: “There is no doubt that we are breaking their bones with the measures taken so far.”
Netanyahu had previously made similar remarks about political change in Iran, urging citizens to overthrow the country’s ruling establishment.
His comments came amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, and ongoing regional security concerns.
