Donald Trump has called off a planned diplomatic trip to Pakistan aimed at easing tensions between the United States and Iran, casting fresh doubt over ongoing peace efforts.
Trump said the decision was based on what he described as unproductive negotiations, noting there was no reason to continue talks that were not yielding results.
However, he revealed that Iran quickly revised its proposal shortly after the cancellation, suggesting some movement on the diplomatic front.
While dismissing any immediate return to full-scale hostilities, Trump maintained a firm stance, insisting the US holds the upper hand and remains open to engagement only on its terms.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, described his recent diplomatic engagements in Pakistan as productive but questioned Washington’s commitment to genuine dialogue.
The situation remains tense, with the Strait of Hormuz still blocked, impacting global energy markets, and renewed violence reported in Lebanon following Israeli strikes targeting Hezbollah positions.
