The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has briefed President Bola Tinubu on the agency’s progress in delivering key infrastructure projects across the Niger Delta.

Ogbuku disclosed this after a meeting with the President at the State House in Abuja, where he highlighted strides made in completing long-standing projects in the region.

According to a statement issued in Port Harcourt by the NDDC Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the commission remains committed to aligning its operations with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Ogbuku credited the achievements recorded so far to strong backing from the Presidency. “The tremendous support of Mr President has been instrumental. He has also directed us to ensure the completion of all legacy projects for the benefit of the Niger Delta people,” he said.

He noted that the meeting provided an opportunity to update the President on ongoing and completed projects, including a 650-bed hostel at the Niger Delta University in Amassoma, Bayelsa State, and an electrification project in Oron, Akwa Ibom State.

The NDDC boss also extended an invitation to President Tinubu to officially commission the projects, describing them as evidence of the government’s commitment to sustainable development in the region.

Speaking on the university hostel, Ogbuku said the facility would help tackle the long-standing accommodation challenges faced by students. “The new hostel will improve comfort and security for students, reduce stress, and enhance their academic performance,” he stated.

He further disclosed that several major projects are nearing completion, including the Kaa–Ataba Road and Bridge and the Niger Delta Regional Specialist Hospital in Rivers State, as well as road infrastructure in Ikot Ekpene.

Ogbuku also briefed the President on collaborative efforts involving the Delta State Government and Chevron Nigeria Limited on the 70.75-kilometre Omadino–Okerenkoko–Escravos Road and bridges project in Warri North.

Reaffirming the commission’s resolve, he said, “We are intensifying efforts to ensure our projects align with the Renewed Hope Agenda, and many landmark initiatives will soon be ready for inauguration.”

Established in 2000, the NDDC is tasked with accelerating development in the oil-producing Niger Delta region, covering nine states including Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and others.
