The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been conclusively resolved following a Supreme Court ruling that nullified the party’s November 2025 national convention.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Wike said the apex court’s judgment has eliminated all parallel leadership claims within the party, affirming that there is now only one recognised PDP structure.
The disputed convention, held on November 15 and 16, 2025, had produced Kabiru Turaki as national chairman. However, the court invalidated the exercise and upheld the legitimacy of the earlier March 29 convention, which brought in Abdulrahman Mohammed as chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as national secretary.
“Today, the Supreme Court has brought to an end the so-called factions of the PDP. There is no more faction in the party. There is only one PDP,” Wike said.
He added that the ruling has settled all disputes over leadership structures, describing it as a victory for due process and internal democracy within the party.
“The Supreme Court has validated our convention and set aside all claims to any parallel structure. What this means is that the PDP has come to stay as one united party,” he said.
Wike further expressed confidence in the party’s stability, noting that the verdict reinforces the PDP’s readiness to function effectively as Nigeria’s main opposition platform.
“The PDP is stable, united and ready to play its role effectively. What has happened today is a victory for the rule of law and internal democracy,” he stated.
The minister also reiterated that the PDP remains a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging that the opposition party would continue to strengthen its position ahead of future political contests.
