The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported that it carried out 87 relief interventions in 2025, assisting 17,000 persons displaced by disasters across Nigeria’s North-West zone. The operations targeted communities affected by banditry, flooding, rainstorms, windstorms, fire outbreaks, and communal clashes.
The North-West Zonal Director of NEMA, Mr Sani Lokoja, disclosed the figures in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Kaduna, highlighting the agency’s continuous efforts to reach vulnerable populations. He said that the interventions were aimed at providing timely support to mitigate the impact of disasters on affected families.
Lokoja added that the relief operations involved distribution of essential items, including food, shelter materials, and medical supplies, ensuring that displaced persons had access to basic needs while rebuilding their lives. He emphasised that the agency works closely with local authorities and community leaders to identify priority areas and deliver assistance efficiently.
The NEMA official further stated that the agency remains committed to strengthening disaster response mechanisms in the North-West and across the country, while urging residents to stay vigilant and report emergencies promptly. The interventions are part of NEMA’s broader mandate to protect lives and reduce the humanitarian impact of crises nationwide.
