The Rivers State Police Command has dissolved its existing tactical teams as part of a broad restructuring aimed at improving operational efficiency, discipline, and professionalism in policing across the state.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, disclosed this in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, noting that the decision followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

According to her, the disbanded tactical formations have now been consolidated into a new operational outfit known as the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

“The VCRU is mandated to respond swiftly and decisively to incidents of violent crime, while strictly adhering to rules of engagement and respect for fundamental human rights,” Agabe stated.

She explained that the restructuring is intended to strengthen coordination among operatives and restore public confidence in policing activities in the state.

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, warned that the command would no longer tolerate misconduct among officers, including extortion and abuse of office.

“Any violation of the Nigeria Police Force Code of Conduct will attract appropriate disciplinary measures,” he said.

Adepoju reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while urging residents to cooperate with security agencies and report any cases of misconduct or suspicious activity.

He added that the new structure reflects the command’s resolve to promote accountable, effective, and community-focused policing across Rivers State.
