The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to abandon any focus on the 2028 governorship race and instead tackle the worsening insecurity and governance challenges across the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Wándé T. Àjàyí, the party’s Director of Media and Public Communications, in the state, they expressed concern that the governor appears increasingly preoccupied with future political ambitions, even as insecurity escalates in communities across Ondo State.
According to the PDP, rural areas and highways have become unsafe, farmers fear for their lives while tending to farms, travelers move cautiously, and families struggle with daily threats from kidnappers and other criminal elements.
The party described it as ironic and concerning that a governor who assumed office under extraordinary constitutional circumstances following the passing of former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is already entangled in political calculations.
Officials stressed that governance should focus on security, infrastructure, and economic relief, not perpetual electoral scheming.
“Governance is not a relay of endless elections; it is a solemn responsibility to deliver security, development, and relief to the people. Citizens of Ondo State deserve a governor who is fully committed to confronting the realities before him,” the statement read.
The PDP, therefore, urged Governor Aiyedatiwa to redirect his attention to restoring public safety, rebuilding confidence, and delivering the dividends of democracy, rather than dissipating energy on political and legal distractions.
“The people of Ondo State deserve leadership that is focused, responsible, and accountable. The office of governor is a sacred trust bestowed by the people, not a platform for perpetual political scheming,” the party said.
