David Egbede, April 4, 2026

The Nigerian Army has dismissed as false reports alleging an attack on the residence of Matthew Kukah and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral.

In a statement by the 8 Division and Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the Army described the viral claim as entirely fabricated, stressing that no such incident occurred anywhere in Sokoto State.

“We categorically debunk these unfounded claims as there was no attack on the residence of Bishop Matthew Kukah or the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral,” the statement said.

The military added that the cleric remains safe and is currently observing his Easter engagements without disruption, assuring residents of continued protection.

“The Division, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Sokoto State.”
