The Nigerian military has convened a general court-martial to prosecute 36 personnel accused of involvement in an alleged plot to overthrow the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The Defence Headquarters inaugurated the panel on Friday at the Scorpion Mess in Asokoro, Abuja, amid tight security.
Proceedings were conducted behind closed doors due to the sensitive nature of the case, with journalists including accredited defence correspondents who had been invited denied access to the venue.
Security operatives also prohibited the use of mobile phones to record the arrival of the accused, who were conveyed to the location in an Army Headquarters Garrison bus at about 8:53 a.m.
The military trial is taking place alongside separate criminal proceedings initiated by the Federal Government against civilian suspects linked to the alleged coup plot at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
