Man City Lead Race for Anderson as Summer Midfield Shake-Up Looms

Soliu Oyesiji, April 24, 2026

Manchester City are emerging as frontrunners in the race to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, with the Premier League champions reportedly stepping up their interest ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who has impressed with his performances this season, is also attracting attention from top-flight rivals including Manchester United and Arsenal.

City are said to be closely monitoring Anderson’s progress and are particularly impressed by his development since his move from Newcastle United. Strong working relations between the two clubs could also play a role in facilitating negotiations.

However, any potential deal may hinge on the upcoming FIFA World Cup, where Anderson is expected to feature prominently for England under Thomas Tuchel. A strong showing at the tournament could further increase his market value.

Anderson remains under contract at Nottingham Forest until June 2029, placing the club in a strong negotiating position. His valuation is expected to be significant, particularly as he is part of a highly sought-after group of midfielders likely to be available this summer, including Sandro Tonali, Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, and Aurélien Tchouaméni.

City’s interest in Anderson comes amid expected changes in their midfield ranks. Uncertainty surrounds the futures of Mateo Kovačić and Nico González, while Bernardo Silva is set to depart the club when his contract expires in June.

In addition to Anderson, City are also reportedly tracking emerging talents Yan Diomande and Eli Junior Kroupi as part of a broader recruitment strategy aimed at refreshing their midfield options.

With competition intensifying and the transfer window approaching, Manchester City appear determined to secure Anderson’s signature as they plan for the next phase of their squad evolution.
