The member representing Dala Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini, has left the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to join the All Progressives Congress, citing internal party crises.
Gini, who serves as the Deputy Minority Leader of the House, formalized his resignation in a letter dated March 10, 2026, addressed to the NNPP chairman of Yalwa Ward in Dala Local Government Area, Kano State.
He had previously distanced himself from the Kwankwasiyya movement, including abandoning the movement’s signature red cap, while still retaining his membership in the NNPP.
The lawmaker said his latestdecision followed consultations with his supporters across the constituency, noting that the move was taken after a careful consideration despite his long-standing commitment to the party and the Kwankwasiyya movement.
He attributed his defection to divisions within the NNPP, stating that the party had split into factions loyal to its founder, Boniface Aniebonam, and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with parallel leadership structures from ward to national level.
