President Bola Tinubu has disclosed that Nigeria has secured support from France in the area of military equipment and training following a recent phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Speaking during a meeting with state governors at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, the President said the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture through international partnerships.
According to him, discussions with France form part of broader engagements with allied nations willing to assist Nigeria in combating insecurity.
Tinubu noted that his administration is prepared to utilise existing goodwill and credit lines to acquire critical defence equipment and enhance the capacity of security forces.
He emphasised that insecurity remains a major threat to national development and requires a unified response from all levels of government.
The President also revealed that military hardware procurement was a key focus during his recent state visit to the United Kingdom, where he held talks with top officials including Keir Starmer.
He reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to deepening security cooperation with international partners to tackle terrorism and other criminal activities.
The development comes amid renewed security concerns following recent attacks in the North-East, with the Federal Government pledging increased investment in technology, logistics, and operational support to confront emerging threats.
Tinubu further urged state governors to prioritise the welfare of vulnerable citizens while working collectively to address both security and economic challenges facing the country.
