Equip Troops to Defeat Boko Haram – Ndume to Tinubu

David Egbede, March 29, 2026

Senator Ali Ndume has raised fresh concerns over Nigeria’s fight against insurgency, warning that terrorists are better equipped than government troops in some conflict zones.

Speaking on recent attacks in his constituency, Ndume explained that soldiers in Ngoshe were forced into a tactical withdrawal due to inadequate weapons and equipment.

“What happened in Ngoshe is that the military there lacked the adequate equipment and ammunition, MRAPs. That is why they had to do a tactical withdrawal when the terrorists struck,” he said.

He maintained that Nigerian soldiers remain brave and committed but are being disadvantaged by poor logistics and insufficient firepower.

“If they were adequately equipped, they wouldn’t have been dislodged because Nigerian army are very gallant; they are strong, determined young people,” he added.

The senator reiterated his warning that parts of Borno State and the North-East could be overrun if urgent action is not taken, stressing that the issue is not intelligence failure but lack of resources.

“When you run out of ammunition and don’t have where to take cover, we have to tell government to do something about that, and I stand by my position.”

While acknowledging efforts by President Bola Tinubu, Ndume urged the Federal Government to intensify support for the military.

“I will always commend him when he does well… but when it’s not enough, you tell him it’s not enough.”

He emphasized that victory against insurgents depends on what he described as “TEAM” — training, equipment, ammunition, and motivation.

“It can be brought to an end if the Nigerian army is well trained, well equipped, well armed, and well motivated,” he said.

Ndume also highlighted the difficult conditions faced by both soldiers and civilians in affected communities, noting that many displaced residents are eager to return home once security improves.
