The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 1,720 personnel across Enugu State to guarantee a safe and peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
DSC Pamela Chukwu, Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC Enugu Command, said officers have been strategically stationed at Eid prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, recreational centres, and other public locations. “As part of a proactive security strategy, the command has intensified intelligence gathering, surveillance operations, and patrol activities across identified flashpoints,” she added.
Chukwu noted that tactical units, area commanders, and divisional officers have been placed on high alert, while the Rapid Response Team is positioned to respond swiftly to any emergencies. She emphasized that the Enugu Command is working closely with other security agencies to maintain a coordinated and effective security framework across the state.
The NSCDC Commandant in Enugu State, Dr. Elijah Willie, has called on residents, particularly Muslim faithful, to celebrate peacefully and adhere to the law. He also urged the public to report any suspicious movement, persons, or objects to security agencies.
Chukwu reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting lives, critical national assets, and infrastructure before, during, and after the festive period.
The deployment in Enugu reflects a broader national strategy by the NSCDC to secure Eid celebrations. On Tuesday, the Kaduna State Command deployed 2,500 officers across key locations to safeguard lives, property, and critical infrastructure.
In both states, security agencies are relying on proactive intelligence and community collaboration to ensure that the festivities remain peaceful.
The Federal Government had earlier declared March 19 and 20 as public holidays for Muslim faithful to mark the end of Ramadan.
