EFCC Arrests Three in Maiduguri Over Suspected Naira Mutilation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested three Maiduguri-based socialites for alleged mutilation of Naira notes.

The suspects, identified as Jibrin Bukar, Dauda Adamu, and Abdullahi Mohammed, were taken into custody following the circulation of a viral video on social media showing them spraying and damaging the currency.

According to the EFCC’s Maiduguri Zonal Directorate, the suspects were traced through intelligence-led operations and arrested in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The commission stated that the trio is currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of inquiries.

“Working on intelligence, the Commission traced the trio and arrested them in Maiduguri, Borno State. They are currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” the EFCC said in a statement on February 17, 2026.
