Operatives of the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a suspect, Ifeanyi Mba, over an alleged ₦10 million land fraud in Enugu State.
The arrest followed a petition by a victim who claimed he paid the suspect ₦10,000,000 for a plot of land located at Plot 677, Owo/Premier Layout in the Ogui Nike community, only to later discover that the property was already being developed by unknown persons.
According to the petitioner, when he confronted the suspect about the development on the land, he was told that the property was government-owned.
The complainant further stated that all efforts to recover his money failed as the suspect subsequently went incommunicado.
The EFCC said preliminary investigations revealed discrepancies in the land description provided by the suspect.
“There is no layout bearing Plot 677 Owo/Premier within the government-acquired areas, and Owo and Premier are two separate layouts,” the Commission stated.
The anti-graft agency added that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
