The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has shifted its ruling in a suit seeking to stop David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from acting as National Chairman and Secretary of the African Democratic Congress to April 14.
The judgment, initially scheduled for Monday, was postponed by Justice Musa Suleiman Liman due to other official commitments.
A court registrar announced the development to lawyers, journalists, and political supporters who had gathered early at the court premises.
The suit was filed by Leke Abejide, a member of the House of Representatives from Kogi State, who is asking the court to nullify the transfer of party leadership from former chairman Ralph Nwosu to Mark and Aregbesola.
He argues that their emergence as interim leaders was “illegal, unlawful, null and void,” and is also seeking an order to stop Independent National Electoral Commission from recognising them.
However, the defendants, including the party, its former chairman, and the electoral body, have urged the court to dismiss the case, insisting that Abejide lacks the legal standing to file the suit.
They maintain that the issue concerns internal party affairs, which they argue is beyond the court’s jurisdiction, and added that the leadership in question was duly elected at a National Executive Committee meeting.
