‘Bauchi is PDP’s Home ‘— Party Calls on Bala Mohammed to Remain

David Egbede, April 3, 2026April 3, 2026

The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed concerns over internal divisions, insisting the party remains united and well-positioned for the 2027 governorship election.

Mannasseh Marti, the party’s Publicity Secretary aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, made this known while reacting to speculation about a possible defection by Governor Bala Mohammed.

“Bauchi State is the home of PDP, and you can see from 2019 till date what the party has done. The masses are okay with us. They have confidence that this is the party that has raised hope and improved the standard of living, especially in Bauchi State,” he said.

Marti maintained that the party has moved past its challenges and is now focused on the future.

“There is no more crisis. We now have a party that is free of litigation and ready to present candidates who can win in 2027. The masses and aspirants are aware that PDP is prepared to retain Government House,” he stated.

He acknowledged that disagreements are common in politics but stressed they can be resolved.

“We know that in every party, situations arise that test commitment. It is like a man leaving his wife—when it happens, you find a way to resolve it,” he said.

On reports of Governor Mohammed’s possible exit, Marti urged him to reconsider, emphasizing the party’s willingness to reconcile.

“We expect Bala Mohammed to find a way out of this issue. Our leader has always been open to dialogue, calling his people to sit and resolve issues. PDP is ready to accept reconciliation so he can continue what he started in the party,” he added.

He also noted the governor’s political roots in the PDP, saying he has a responsibility to help stabilise the party.

“It was PDP that gave him the platform to become governor, and he is duty-bound to ensure that all issues are handled amicably,” he said.

Despite the uncertainty, Marti expressed confidence in the party’s strength.

“Bala Mohammed knows that if he leaves PDP, the party will still remain. The flag may go down for a short time, but I can assure you it will rise again before 2027,” he said.

He further warned that any move away from the PDP may not be politically smooth for the governor.

“Anywhere he moves, he is going to face challenges. I don’t know whether from there he will retire from active politics,” he added.

Marti concluded by expressing hope that the governor would stay, noting that many supporters are optimistic.

“We believe the people of Bauchi State will be glad if His Excellency makes the right decision,” he said.
