Barcelona Confirm Lamine Yamal Ruled Out for Season

Soliu Oyesiji, April 23, 2026April 23, 2026

FC Barcelona have confirmed that teenage star Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a hamstring injury, dealing a major setback to the club’s title ambitions and Spain’s preparations for the upcoming World Cup.

The 18-year-old forward picked up the injury during Barcelona’s 1–0 La Liga victory over Celta Vigo, in which he had earlier scored from the penalty spot. Yamal was forced off before halftime after what initially appeared to be a minor knock, but was later diagnosed as a muscle injury.

In an official statement released on the club’s website and social media platforms, Barcelona confirmed the extent of the damage: “The tests carried out have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has a hamstring injury in his left leg (biceps femoris muscle). The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season, and he is expected to be available for the World Cup.”

The injury comes at a crucial stage of the campaign, with Barcelona still chasing domestic honours under head coach Hansi Flick. Yamal will now miss the club’s final six La Liga matches, including a highly anticipated clash against arch-rivals Real Madrid.

Despite the disappointment, the club’s statement offered a positive note regarding his international prospects, suggesting he is expected to recover in time for the World Cup.

The setback has sparked concern within the squad, with teammate and Spain international Gavi describing the injury as “a real nightmare,” adding that he was “completely devastated” upon learning the news.

Yamal’s absence represents a significant blow for Barcelona, who have relied heavily on the young winger’s creativity and attacking threat throughout the season.
