Suspected bandits on Tuesday night attacked the old National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka, Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, reportedly killing several staff members.
The Conservator of the park, Mr. Tesleem Kareem, confirmed the incident on Wednesday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan.
Kareem said the exact number of casualties was yet to be determined, adding that efforts were ongoing to evacuate the victims. NAN gathered that the attack occurred around 9:00 p.m. and that at least five NPS personnel may have been killed.
The bodies are yet to be recovered, as they are believed to be located within the surrounding forest. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, also confirmed the attack, stating that the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and other security chiefs were en route to the area, with tactical units, Mobile Police personnel, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team deployed to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
