Atletico Madrid’s Ademola Lookman made history on Sunday by scoring in his LaLiga Madrid derby debut against Real Madrid.
The Nigerian international became only the 8th Atletico player this century to score in their first derby appearance and the first since Luciano Vietto in October 2015.
More notably, Lookman is the first Nigerian ever to find the net in this iconic fixture.
Lookman opened the scoring in the 33rd minute following a clever backheel assist from Giuliano Simeone, giving Diego Simeone’s side a 1-0 halftime lead.
However, Real Madrid staged a comeback in the second half, with Vinicius Junior scoring twice and Federico Valverde adding another to secure a 3-2 victory at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Nahuel Molina had briefly equalized with a long-range strike before Vinicius restored Real Madrid’s lead in the 72nd minute, ensuring Los Blancos edged out their city rivals.
