Adebutu Declares 2027 Ogun Governorship Bid Under PDP

Soliu Oyesiji, May 1, 2026

The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Oladipupo Adebutu, has formally declared his intention to contest the state’s top seat again in the 2027 general elections.

Adebutu conveyed his decision in a letter dated April 30, 2026, addressed to the party leadership at the state and local government levels.

The correspondence was made available to journalists on Friday by his media aide, Afolabi Orekoya.

In the letter, the PDP chieftain appreciated party leaders and members for their support, while calling for unity ahead of the next electoral cycle.

“I wish to express my sincere appreciation to the leadership and members of our great party for their continued support and loyalty.

“As we approach the 2027 elections, it is imperative that we remain united and focused on our collective goal,” Adebutu said.

Adebutu, who contested the 2023 governorship election on the PDP platform, reiterated his commitment to the party’s ideals and his resolve to provide what he described as purposeful leadership for the people of Ogun State.

“My decision to once again seek the governorship position is borne out of my desire to build on past experiences and deliver impactful governance to our people,” he stated.

He emphasised the need for people-centred policies and inclusive development, noting that continuity in governance vision would be key to sustainable progress.

The former governorship candidate also described himself as a loyal party member with a longstanding commitment to strengthening the PDP’s structures across the state.

“I remain committed to the ideals of our party and will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen its presence across Ogun State,” he said.

Adebutu further urged stakeholders to close ranks and avoid internal divisions, stressing that cohesion within the party would be critical to its success at the polls.

“I call on all stakeholders to remain united. Internal cohesion will be critical to our success, and I am ready to work with all factions within the party to achieve victory,” he added.
