Kaduna has Effectively Become a One-Party State – Governor Uba Sani

David Egbede, May 1, 2026May 1, 2026

Governor Uba Sani has declared that Kaduna State is now firmly under the control of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that opposition parties no longer have a significant presence.

Speaking during a visit by a presidential delegation led by Bayo Onanuga, the governor said he has “no apology” for the state’s political reality, while also criticising some journalists for what he described as biased questioning.

Addressing the gathering, Sani said “there is no more opposition” for the ruling party in the state, accusing some journalists of criticising his administration with preconceived opinion.

“To my commissioners, I just want to thank you, and I can assure you that Kaduna state, as we are speaking, we have no opposition. That’s the fact of the matter. We have brought Kaduna into a one-party state and I have no apology for that,” he said.

“I have no apology because some latter day journalists were asking questions. You go to studio, they ask questions and they answer the questions themselves.

“Before getting to the studio, they already have their own opinion, and they want you to listen to them. But we can’t do that. Most of them have no historical perspectives of where we are coming from.”

Sani praised Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insisting that no previous leader has delivered as much support to northern Nigeria in such a short time.

He pointed to improved security and infrastructure, particularly in previously troubled areas like Birnin Gwari, as evidence of progress.

The governor also dismissed doubts about Tinubu’s 2027 re-election chances, arguing that real voter support lies beyond social media narratives and remains strong at the grassroots.

Responding, Onanuga said the visit was aimed at assessing how states are utilising funds from fuel subsidy removal, noting that Kaduna stands out in translating resources into impactful development projects.
