ADC Members Protest INEC office in Nasarawa, Demand Leadership Reinstatement

David Egbede, April 13, 2026April 13, 2026

Members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State have staged a protest at the state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lafia, demanding the reinstatement of the party’s national executives allegedly removed from the electoral body’s portal.

Speaking during the demonstration, ADC women leader, Hajiya Hafsat Ibrahim, insisted that the party has no internal factional crisis, stressing that its recognised leadership remains intact under Senator David Mark as national chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary.

She alleged that the removal of the party’s leadership details was unjust and called for the resignation of the INEC Chairman, accusing the commission of bias.

“We are calling on the national chairman of INEC to resign because that is not what we are expecting from him. INEC should be impartial,” she said.

She further warned against what she described as moves toward a one-party system, insisting that democracy must accommodate all political voices.

“We must have a say in our country… this is democracy, we can’t agree on a one-party system in Nigeria,” she added.

The protesters also urged the international community to pay attention to Nigeria’s democratic process, warning against a drift toward autocracy.

In response, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Nasarawa State commended the protesters for their peaceful conduct and assured them that their grievances would be communicated to the appropriate authorities.

He reaffirmed that the protest was a constitutional right and urged continued commitment to democratic principles across the country.
