Kano APC Stakeholders Rally Behind Garo as Deputy Governor Nominee — Doguwa

David Egbede, April 13, 2026April 13, 2026

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Downstream Petroleum, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has revealed that 27 out of 31 APC stakeholders in Kano State supported the nomination of Murtala Sule Garo as Deputy Governor following the resignation of Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.

In a statement, Doguwa commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for allowing the APC legacy group, led by Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, to nominate a candidate for the position. He described the move as a rare display of humility and a step toward fostering unity within the party.

According to him, the governor also offered the group additional opportunities, including three commissioner slots and other positions, describing the gesture as unprecedented.

Doguwa explained that during a stakeholders’ meeting presided over by Ganduje, the majority agreed on Garo as their preferred candidate, citing his political influence, grassroots support across the 44 local government areas, and his role as the party’s deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 elections.

He noted that although a few dissenting opinions were expressed, the overwhelming majority backed Garo, while two other nominees were included mainly to meet the governor’s directive.

Doguwa urged the governor to respect the stakeholders’ decision and appoint Garo, assuring him of the group’s full support ahead of the 2027 elections.
