FG Sets up Gas-to-Power Committee to Boost Electricity Supply

David Egbede, April 10, 2026April 10, 2026

The federal government has inaugurated a gas-to-power monitoring committee to tackle persistent gas supply issues affecting electricity generation.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, described the initiative as a “decisive and strategic step” towards resolving one of the biggest constraints in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.

He noted that gas-fired plants, which generate about 80% of Nigeria’s electricity, continue to face setbacks due to pipeline vandalism, supply disruptions, outstanding debts, and weak sector coordination.

According to the minister, the committee will focus on fixing damaged pipelines, addressing payment issues with gas suppliers, and improving overall operational efficiency.

Adelabu emphasized the need for a shift from reactive measures to structured, data-driven solutions with clear timelines and accountability.

The committee comprises key stakeholders across the power value chain and is expected to deliver practical solutions to enhance electricity supply and grid stability nationwide.
